Welcome to A NEW ARC

Who we are

Anewarc is a consultancy that works with LAs MATs schools and education settings to develop ‘relational practice’ for the benefit of the whole learning community and particularly the most disadvantaged.

What is Relational Practice?

Secure attachment relationships with adults create belonging and the safety and optimal brain states that all children need to take on new learning challenges. Many children and adults have unmet attachment needs and/or a history of trauma. This can trigger fight, fight, freeze, or flop responses, negatively affecting learning and behaviour. Under too much stress. this is a risk for all of us.

Relational Practice – what do you do?

In Developing Relational Practice we consciously implement strategies which are designed to build and rebuild relationships to create the safety, sense of belonging and confidence all children need to cope with adversity, be pro-social contributors to their community and become confident, resilient lifelong learners.

How we work with you

Our network of senior leaders, trainers and academics have extensive experience of supporting and leading the development of relational practice.

We start with you, your context, strengths and ambitions and build a programme with you to support the next phase of your work.

Feedback on our work

Our programme, based on research from the Rees Centre at Oxford University, with which we continue to work, has been developed in partnership with over a hundred schools and settings from multiple local authorities. We are delighted with our feedback:

Trafford Virtual School

Tony has supported us with our Belong (Attachment Aware and Trauma Informed Schools) Programme since Summer 2022.  The Belong programme includes whole-school training, inter-school networks, post-graduate study, including undertaking an action research project, and access half-termly reflective supervision with a Clinical Psychologist.

Tony has been instrumental in the success of this programme which now includes three cohorts working with 28 schools including our local FE College.  Tony has supported us to design the programme, implement audits, plan networks and strategically plan long-term goals.  We could honestly not have done any of it without him!

Programme participants

‘……we have seen a 55% reduction in suspension and a 46% reduction in exclusion. This is despite a 30% increase in incidents recorded on their systems.  Showing a shift to early intervention and responding to behaviour in a more relational way.

‘AATI has been embedded in our policies and ethos of the school. At the crux of everything is our school striving to create and maintain relationships.’

‘CPD has developed staff knowledge of learning barriers and how to overcome them. Arousal cycle and emotion coach training has been invaluable here. 40% reduction in our most significant behaviours’
